The Reveal is an oil painting depicting the rear of the hidden Mill in Laragh. For many years, the building was completely obscured by overgrowth from invasive plant species. When this vegetation was cleared, the Mill was unexpectedly revealed, exposing a side of the structure rarely seen.
While the front of the building is constructed from traditional granite, I was drawn instead to the rear façade, where modern, colourful plasterwork contrasts with the historic form. This unexpected combination of old and new, concealed and revealed, made the back of the Mill a more compelling subject to paint.
